Ray Burris pitched a four-hitter as the Expos breezed to an 8-1 thrashing of the Cardinals. The Expos took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a homer by Andre Dawson and exploded for six runs in the third stanza.

The outburst began with a one-out single by Dawson, who reached second on a groundout and scored on a single by Warren Cromartie. After Tim Wallach and Larry Parrish drew walks to load the bases, St. Louis starter Bob Shirley was given the hook and replaced by Mark Littell. Chris Speier greeted the reliever with a two-run single and, after Burris walked to load the sacks, Tim Raines capped the uprising with a three-run triple. [The Sporting News]
