Taking advantage of Chicago misplays, the A's tallied five runs in the first inning and went on to a 6-2 triumph over the White Sox. Rickey Henderson began the game with a single, went to third on a single by Dwayne Murphy and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cliff Johnson.

Murphy scored when Chet Lemon bobbled Tony Armas' single to center. Mike Heath, who got a second life when catcher Carlton Fisk dropped his pop foul, reached first on third baseman Jim Morrison's error. A single by Dave McKay then plated Armas. A two-run triple by Shooty Babitt capped the outburst. [The Sporting News]
