Striking for two runs in the seventh inning and two in the eighth, the White Sox defeated the A's, 4-2. Oakland took the lead in the second on a two-run homer by Mitchell Page, but Chicago knotted the score in the seventh on RBI singles by Ron LeFlore and Mike Squires.

Greg Luzinski singled to lead off the eighth and advanced to third when left fielder Rickey Henderson bobbled the ball and first baseman Jim Spencer failed to handle Henderson's throw to the infield. After Harold Baines was walked, Chet Lemon singled to plate pinch-runner Rusty Kuntz and advanced when right fielder Tony Armas juggled the ball.
