Dave LaRoche pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to claim the victory as the Yankees edged the White Sox, 6-5 in 12 innings. Bobby Murcer led off the Yankees' 12th with a single and went to third on a single by Dave Revering. After Larry Milbourne ran for Murcer, Graig Nettles received an intentional walk to load the bases.

Ed Farmer then replaced Kevin Hickey on the hill for the Sox and gave up a sacrifice fly to Rick Cerone that ended the game. The Sox had deadlocked the contest in the seventh on a two-run homer by Jim Morrison after the Yanks had gone ahead, 5-3, in the fifth on a two-run homer by Cerone. [The Sporting News]
