Dave Concepcion hit two homers and Mario Soto went the route on a five-hitter, giving the Reds a 6-3 triumph over the Expos. The Reds scored in the first inning on a triple by Ron Oester and single by Ken Griffey, and upped their margin to 3-0 in the fourth on a homer by Concepcion that followed a double by George Foster.

Concepcion led off the sixth with his second round-tripper to snap a 3-3 deadlock and the Reds' final two markers came in the seventh on an RBI single by Oester and run-scoring double by Foster. [The Sporting News]
