The Yankees won their seventh straight game, downing the White Sox, 3-1, as Rich Gossage registered his 16th save. The Bronx Bombers tallied twice in the fourth frame. They loaded the bases on a single by Lou Piniella, double by Dave Winfield and a walk to Bob Watson.

Graig Nettles drove in the first run with a groundout and, after Barry Foote walked to reload the sacks, Aurelio Rodriguez also walked to force home a run. The Yanks picked up an insurance marker in the sixth on a wild pitch. [The Sporting News]
