After Lenny Randle received an intentional pass, Tom Paciorek delivered a single to plate Cruz. The Tribe had rallied to tie the game in the ninth on a two-run pinch-single by Ron Hassey.

Cruz tied a major league fielding record for most chances in a nine-inning game with 18 and also had another chance in extra innings, leaving him one short of the mark for most chances in an extra inning contest.
