Bob Welch registered 11 strikeouts in blanking the Cubs, 7-0, to end the Dodgers' four-game losing streak. The Dodgers scored in their first turn at bat on a single by Ken Landreaux and two-run homer by Dusty Baker, and boosted the lead to 3-0 in the second on a squeeze bunt by Derrel Thomas. Ron Cey hit an RBI groundout in the fourth inning and the Dodgers got run-scoring singles from Thomas in the sixth, Mike Scioscia in the seventh and Steve Garvey in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
