Roaring to their ninth straight victory, the Yankees defeated the Royals, 8-5. The Bronx Bombers trailed, 5-1, going into the third inning, but tied the game on a three-run homer by Dave Winfield and a solo shot by Graig Nettles.

The Yankees went ahead, 6-5, in the fourth frame on a sacrifice fly by Oscar Gamble and picked up singletons in the sixth and seventh, respectively, on a run-scoring single by Willie Randolph and an error by K.C. third baseman George Brett.
