Homers by Randy Bass and Joe Lefebvre helped power the Padres to a 7-4 triumph over the Pirates in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The second game was postponed because of rain. The Padres scored four runs in the third inning on a two-run single by Luis Salazar and two-run double by Steve Mura. Bass drilled a two-run round-tripper with none out in the fourth, and Lefebvre blasted a bases-empty home run with one out in the same inning.
