Five-hit pitching by Richard Dotson carried the White Sox to a 3-0 blanking of the Blue Jays, Toronto's ninth straight defeat and 11th shutout of the season. The Sox scored a run in the second inning when Chet Lemon and Wayne Nordhagen singled and Jim Morrison followed with a sacrifice fly.

Lemon reached first base safely in the fourth when shortstop Danny Ainge booted his grounder and Nordhagen followed with an inside-the-park homer. Right fielder George Bell crashed into the railing while chasing Nordhagen's blow and suffered an injury to his right ankle. He was carried off on a stretcher and taken to a hospital for X-rays.
