Jerry Reuss, after allowing a one-out solo homer by Garry Templeton in the first inning, retired 22 straight batters before settling for a three-hitter as the Dodgers defeated the Cardinals, 4-1. The Dodgers took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a two-run single by Ken Landreaux and added singletons in the sixth and eighth frames, respectively, on an RBI double by Mike Scioscia and a run-scoring single by Reuss.
