. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Pete Rose broke Stan Musial's National League career record for hits with an eighth-inning single through the left side of the infield, but the Cardinals hit four homers and prevailed over the Phillies, 7-3. Rose's blow was No. 3,631, topping Musial's record of 3,630.

The Redbirds snapped a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning on singles by Keith Hernandez and Dane Iorg and a two-run double by Ken Oberkfell. Garry Templeton stroked a run-scoring single in the seventh and Sixto Lezcano and Gene Tenace tagged back-to-back homers in the ninth. Hernandez had homered in the first and George Hendrick in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
