Backup catcher Keith Moreland was the star of the game as the Phillies gained a 6-5 victory over the Cardinals in 10 innings. Moreland, who entered the contest as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning, drove home the tying run with a single and then drove in the winning run in the 10th.

The decisive rally in the 10th began with a single by Gary Matthews. Larry Bowa followed with a single that sent Matthews to third and Bowa reached second on the throw to third. After Lonnie Smith was walked intentionally and Bruce Sutter relieved Jim Kaat on the mound for the Redbirds, Moreland lashed a single to right-center. [The Sporting News]
