Erupting for three runs in the top of the 10th inning, the Mets rolled to their third consecutive triumph over the Cubs, 7-4. With the game tied, 4-4, Dave Kingman opened the 10th with a fly ball that bounced between center fielder Bobby Bonds and right fielder Hector Cruz and rolled to the wall for a triple.

Ellis Valentine then tripled over Bonds' head to plate Kingman. A single by Hubie Brooks drove in Valentine. Brooks took second on a passed ball and came in on a single by Alex Trevino. The Cubs had tied the game in the seventh on a two-run pinch-homer by Mike Lum. [The Sporting News]
