The Orioles scored two runs in the first inning and made them stand up behind the hurling of three pitchers to edge the Royals, 2-1. The Birds' runs came when they loaded the bases on singles by Jim Dwyer and Ken Singleton and a walk to Terry Crowley, and Doug DeCinces followed with a two-run single.
