A three-run outburst in the fourth inning triggered the Dodgers to a 5-0 victory over the Braves, ending Atlanta's four-game winning streak. Braves starter John Montefusco  was kayoed in the fourth when he gave up five singles and three runs.

The tallies crossed the plate on an RBI single by Ron Cey, run-scoring single by Mike Scioscia and sacrifice fly by Bill Russell. Pedro Guerrero stroked a two-run single in the fifth. Dave Goltz hurled the first five frames to get the win while Alejandro Pena completed the shutout to earn his first save since being called up from Albuquerque (Pacifice Coast) two days previously.
