The Giants scoring in the opener came on an RBI double by Darrell Evans in the first inning, RBI single by Jeff Leonard and run-scoring fielder's choice grounder by Joe Morgan in the sixth, and a solo homer by Jack Clark in the seventh.

The score of the second game was 6-6 when Al Holland hit Dave Concepcion with a pitch to lead off the bottom of the 10th. Concepcion then stole second and George Foster was intentionally walked. After two successive forceouts left Foster at third, Sam Mejias hit a high bouncer that shortstop Johnnie LeMaster was unable to handle and Foster scored the winning run. [The Sporting News]
