Rookie southpaw Bob Ojeda, with relief help from Mark Clear, pitched the Red Sox to a 5-3 decision over the Mariners. Singles by Dwight Evans and Jim Rice and a wild pitch produced the first Sox run in the third inning, and an RBI forceout produced another in the fourth.

Boston tallied twice in the fifth on a run-scoring single by Carl Yastrzemski and RBI infield out by Garry Hancock. Jerry Remy delivered an RBI single in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
