Homers by Larry Milbourne and Graig Nettles in the first inning triggered the Yankees' 8-0 rout of the Royals. Milbourne's round-tripper came when K.C. left fielder Willie Wilson was struck in the head by a fly ball he lost in the sun. The ball bounded away and Milbourne circled the bases. Later in the frame, Nettles drilled a three-run shot following an infield hit by Dave Winfield and a walk to Oscar Gamble. A two-run homer by Gamble keyed a four-run second inning.
