Jerry Mumphrey hit two triples and a homer, drove in three runs and scored three times to lead the Yankees to a 6-1 decision over the White Sox. Mumphrey led off the game with a three-bagger and scored on a single by Dave Winfield.

After the Sox tied the game in the fourth on a double by Tony Bernazard and two straight wild pitches by Ron Guidry, Mumphrey hit a leadoff homer in the sixth to put the Yanks ahead, 2-1. Mumphrey drilled a two-run triple to highlight New York's four-run seventh. [The Sporting News]
