Pushing across a run in the top of the ninth inning, the Tigers shaded the White Sox, 2-1, dealing Chicago its fifth straight defeat. With the game tied, 1-1, Lou Whitaker opened the ninth with a base on balls and was sacrificed to second by Ricky Peters.
