A dropped fly by St. Louis right fielder Sixto Lezcano was the key play of the game as the Giants beat the Cardinals, 4-2, for their fifth straight victory. The Giants scored their first run in a three-run fifth inning on singles by Joe Morgan, Jack Clark and Darrell Evans and the other two runs came in when Lezcano muffed a two-out fly ball by Larry Herndon.

The final Giants tally came in the seventh when Morgan walked, went to second on a sacrifice, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Clark. Vida Blue and Al Holland combined to limit the Redbirds to five hits. [The Sporting News]
