A two-run homer by Dave Stapleton was the decisive blow as the Red Sox defeated the Angels, 3-1, behind the combined six-hit hurling of Bob Ojeda and Mark Clear. Stapleton's blast came in the fourth inning with pinch-runner Joe Rudi on base and snapped a 1-1 tie. Rudi was running for Carney Lansford, who was hit by a pitch on his helmet. [The Sporting News]
