The Padres recorded their fourth straight victory, a 5-4 decision over the Cubs in 10 innings. The game was tied, 4-4, when Tim Flannery began the bottom of the 10th with a pinch-single and reached second on a single by Juan Bonilla.

Terry Kennedy then delivered the game-winning run with a single off the glove of second baseman Mike Tyson. San Diego had deadlocked the count in the bottom of the ninth on a triple by Ruppert Jones and Luis Salazar's double after the Cubs had gone ahead, 4-3, in the top of that frame on a throwing error by Padres left fielder Dave Edwards.
