A two-run single by Pete Rose in the eighth inning lifted the Phillies to a 5-4 decision over the Reds. After George Foster slammed a solo homer in the top of the eighth to give the Reds a 4-3 lead, the Phils loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame on a two-out walk to Greg Gross, single by Manny Trillo and walk to Lonnie Smith.
