Jim Slaton had a no-hitter for eight innings but was knocked out of the box in the ninth although receiving credit for the victory as the Brewers downed the Twins, 5-3. The Brewers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Ted Simmons and stretched the margin to 3-0 in the third on a walk, RBI double by Cecil Cooper and run-scoring single by Simmons. Roy Howell and Paul Molitor also collected RBI singles in the sixth and ninth frames, respectively.

Sal Butera spoiled Slaton's bid with a leadoff single in the ninth. When Kent Hrbek followed with a single and Hosken Powell unloaded a three-run homer, Slaton was derricked in favor of Rollie Fingers, who notched his 22nd save. [The Sporting News]
