Vida Blue allowed just one hit in seven innings and drove in a run to pace the Giants to a 3-0 blanking of the Cubs. The southpaw had a no-hitter until Bill Buckner singled with one out in the seventh inning.

After issuing a leadoff walk in the eighth, Blue departed in favor of Greg Minton, who recorded his 15th save. Consecutive singles by Darrell Evans, Jerry Martin and Milt May gave the Giants a run in the fourth inning.
