Jason Thompson collected four hits, including a two-run, first-inning homer, and drove in four runs to lead the Pirates to a 9-5 victory over the Padres. The first sacker also delivered an RBI single in the third and doubled home another marker in the sixth. Eddie Solomon hurled the first six innings to get the win and Don Robinson earned the save.
