Fernando Valenzuela tied a league record for rookies by pitching his seventh shutout and added a three-run triple in the seventh inning to lead the Dodgers to a 5-0 victory over the Cards. Only two Redbirds reached second base, while the Dodgers scored in the third inning on Derrel Thomas' single, a sacrifice by Valenzuela and an RBI single by Davey Lopes. With the bases loaded in the seventh on a pair of singles and a hit bastsman, Valenzuela lined a three-bagger to right and tallied on Lopes' single. [The Sporting News]
