Two homers by Johnny Bench helped the Reds outslug the Padres, 8-7. Bench's first shot came with the bases empty in the sixth inning and boosted the Reds to a two-run lead. But the Padres pounded Tom Seaver in the top of the seventh, scoring six runs, the key hit being a three-run double by Ruppert Jones.
