A sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Steve Henderson plated the decisive run as the Cubs outlasted the Cardinals, 4-3 in 12 innings. The score was 3-3 when Jerry Morales opened the 12th with a double. After Tim Blackwell walked and Ken Reitz sacrificed the runners along, Mike Tyson received an intentional pass to load the bases.

Henderson then delivered a fly to center and Morales scored after the catch. Each team had tallied in the 11th inning, the Cubs on a sacrifice fly by Bill Buckner and the Cardinals on a sacrifice fly by Darrell Porter. [The Sporting News]
