The Brewers and Yankees split a doubleheader, the Yanks winning the curtain raiser, 5-2, and the Brewers capturing the nightcap, 5-3. Jerry Mumphrey paced New York in the first game with four hits, including a two-run homer in the first inning and a run-scoring single in the seventh.

A three-run homer by Cecil Cooper in the first inning triggered Milwaukee to triumph in the second game. His circuit clout followed a leadoff single by Paul Molitor and a walk to Robin Yount. Ben Oglivie cracked a solo round tripper later in the same frame. [The Sporting News]
