Stretching their winning skein to four games, the Cubs outlasted the Expos, 6-5. Chicago scored four runs in their first turn at bat on run-scoring singles by Bill Buckner, Jerry Morales and Pat Tabler and a sacrifice fly by Ken Reitz.

After posting another run in the second inning, the Cubs had a solo homer by Reitz in the fifth. The Expos closed to within 6-5 and had runners on first and third with one out in the top of the ninth but failed to score as Tim Raines fanned and Wallace Johnson was cut down stealing on the same play to end the game.
