A three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning enabled the Giants to squeeze out a 6-5 triumph over the Braves. The Giants were behind, 5-2, when the winning surge began with Enos Cabell reaching first safely on a throwing error by shortstop Luis Gomez.

Larry Herndon beat out an infield hit and Darrell Evans stroked a run-scoring single. Jeff Leonard followed with an RBI double and Milt May was walked intentionally to load the bases. After Jerry Martin struck out, pinch-hitter Dave Bergman laid a squeeze bunt down the third base line and Joe Pettini, running for Evans, crossed the plate with the winning run.
