Spinning a two-hitter, Larry McWilliams pitched the Braves to a 3-0 whitewashing of the Padres. The Braves tallied twice in the sixth inning when Claudell Washington singled, stole second, reached third on a throwing error by catcher Terry Kennedy and came in on a double by Bob Horner. A single by Rufino Linares drove home Horner. Ruppert Jones and Kennedy singled in the second inning for the only hits off McWilliams, who retired the last 10 batters he faced. [The Sporting News]
