A two-run pinch-homer by Johnny Bench in the ninth inning lifted the Reds to a 5-4 triumph over the Dodgers. The Reds trailed, 4-3, when Ron Oester began the ninth with a single and, one out later, Bench connected for the circuit. The Dodgers had just broken a 3-3 tie in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Reggie Smith. [The Sporting News]
