A two-run triple by Hubie Brooks keyed a four-run first inning that propelled the Mets to an 8-1 victory over the Cardinals. Mookie Wilson began the Mets first with an infield hit and John Stearns reached first on an error by third baseman Ken Oberkfell.

Brooks then drilled his three-bagger and, one out later, tallied on a double by Dave Kingman. An RBI single by Doug Flynn capped the outburst. A two-run single by Flynn highlighted a four-run eighth. [The Sporting News]
