The Tigers ended their five-game losing streak by shading the Indians, 4-3. Detroit overcame a 2-1 deficit in the sixth inning on a double by Steve Kemp and two-run homer by Champ Summers. Stan Papi provided needed insurance with a leadoff round-tripper in the seventh. The Indians scored once in the ninth and had the tying run at third with one out, only to have pinch-runner Miguel Dilone thrown out at the plate while attempting to score on an infield grounder.
