Mike Schmidt's 27th homer capped a four-run seventh inning that enabled the Phillies to shade the Pirates, 5-4. The Phils trailed, 3-1, when Manny Trillo began the bottom of the seventh with a single, went to third on Dave Parker's throwing error and scored on a pinch-double by Greg Gross.

A triple by Lonnie Smith plated Gross and brought on Kent Tekulve in relief of Eddie Solomon. A single by Pete Rose drove home Smith with the go-ahead run and, after a double play, Schmidt drilled a ball into the left field seats. [The Sporting News]
