Gary Matthews drove in five runs with a single and homer and Mike Schmidt blasted a two-run homer to power the Phillies to a 9-2 thumping of the Cubs. Schmidt's swat tied the score at 2-2 in the fourth inning and Matthews stroked a two-run single in the fifth to put the Phils ahead, 4-2. Matthews later smacked a three-run round-tripper in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
