Tommy Herr broke a 1-for-17 slump with a bases-loaded triple in the fourth inning and then stole home to spark the Cardinals to a 7-5 victory over the Pirates. The Redbirds tallied once in the second inning on an error by Bucs left fielder Lee Lacy. They loaded the bases with one out in the fourth on walks to Ken Oberkfell and Darrell Porter and an error by third baseman Bill Madlock.

After Dave LaPoint struck out, Herr drilled a ball to the left-center field wall and then stole home to cap the four-run frame. Dave Parker drove in all five runs for Pittsburgh with a three-run homer in the sixth and two-run double in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
