The Tribe was behind, 4-3, when Rick Manning led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Duane Kuiper.

Manning went to third on an infield hit by Jerry Dybzinski and scored on a single by Miguel Dilone. One out later, Mike Hargrove walked to load the bases and Pat Kelly then walked to force in the go-ahead run.
