A pinch-double by Mike Easler in the bottom of the ninth inning enabled the Pirates to edge the Cardinals, 8-7, in a sloppily played game played in near-freezing temperatures. The score was 7-7 when Omar Moreno opened the Bucs' ninth with a walk and reached second on a sacrifice by Tim Foli.

After Dave Parker was walked intentionally, Easler lashed a drive to left-center that bounced over the wall for a ground-rule double.
