The Braves eliminated Cincinnati from the N.L. West title race by downing the Reds, 4-3. The score was 3-3 when Bob Horner led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a single, took third on a single by Chris Chambliss and scored when Reds' second baseman Ron Oester caught Dale Murphy's line drive but threw wildly to first in an effort to double up Chambliss. Horner drove in the first three Atlanta runs with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and solo homers in the fourth and sixth innings. [The Sporting News]
