A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning enabled the White Sox to shade the Twins, 5-4. The game was tied, 4-4, when Carlton Fisk singled with one out in the ninth. After Jim Essian struck out, Leo Sutherland and Bill Almon walked to fill the bases. Pinch-hitter Jerry Turner then walked on Bob Veselic's 3-1 serve to force Fisk home with the game-winning marker.
