Getting superb relief pitching from Ron Davis and Rich Gossage, the Yankees edged the Brewers, 5-3, in the first game of the A.L. East Division Series. New York scored four runs in the fourth inning on a one-out walk to Reggie Jackson followed by a two-run homer by Oscar Gamble, Bob Watson's single, an infield hit by Larry Milbourne and Rick Cerone's two-run double.
