Scattering six hits, Steve McCatty hurled the A's to a 2-1 triumph over the Royals, giving Oakland a 2-0 lead in games in the best-of-five Divisional Series. The game was tied, 1-1, when Dwayne Murphy opened the eighth inning with a single and took second on a sacrifice bunt by Cliff Johnson. Tony Armas then drilled a hard shot through the legs of K.C. third baseman George Brett for a double that scored Murphy.

Armas drove in the first run in the first inning with a double on a short hit to right field. The two-bagger followed a single by Murphy and a double by Johnson. Johnson had to hold up until Armas' ball fell and only got as far as third base. [The Sporting News]
