The Yankees' pitching troika of Dave Righetti, Ron Davis and Rich Gossage combined for 14 strikeouts and limited Milwaukee batters to seven hits in blanking the Brewers, 3-0, for a 2-0 lead in the A.L. East Division Series. Lou Piniella provided a home run in the fourth inning and Reggie Jackson connected for the circuit with a man on base in the ninth.

Righetti fanned 10 batters in six innings before giving way to Davis at the start of the seventh. Trying to hold a 1-0 lead, Davis loaded the bases but was bailed out of trouble by Gossage, who earned his second save in less than 24 hours. [The Sporting News]
