A pinch-homer by George Vukovich in the bottom of the 10th inning enabled the Phillies to edge the Expos, 6-5, and even their best-of-five East Division Series at two games apiece. The game-winning blow -- Vukovich's third pinch-hit of the series -- came on a 2-0 pitch. The Phillies' other runs came on a two-run homer by Mike Schmidt in the first inning, two-run single by Keith Moreland in the third and a sixth-inning solo homer by Gary Matthews.

Moreland's hit was made possible when Montreal second baseman Jerry Manuel missed second base on what looked like an inning-ending double play. That miscue enabled Moreland to come to the plate. Gary Carter knocked in two runs for the Expos with a bases-empty round-tripper in the fourth and a run-scoring double in the seventh that tied the game at 5-5. [The Sporting News]
